It is important to wipe your brush with a tissue before washing it. Use warm water to wash your brush in the case of water colors but turpentine if the paint is oil based. Never use hot water as it can damage the bristles of your paint brush. Wash with a mild soap later on and repeat the process until your brush is clean. Wipe it in a soft cloth or tissue paper and let it dry in room temperature. Ensure to place it upside down so that the bristles are always on the top.
